JACKSON -- John Hendricks of Jackson has filed as a Libertarian Party candidate for the 8th District congressional seat.
Hendricks, 38, and his wife, Joanie, own the Book Rack in Cape Girardeau and Spin City CDs in Jackson. The Book Rack sells used books.
Hendricks expressed both concern and relief about the do-nothing Congress. "When Congress does nothing, at least they are not digging deeper into the 8th District citizens' pockets to fund another ludicrous and unconstitutional program."
He said, "Republicans talked about a lot of things during the `Revolution' of 1994. Unfortunately, they proved themselves to be all talk and no action, just like their Democratic counterparts."
Hendricks said government spending continues to increase, Social Security is still broke and personal freedoms are slowing fading away.
Hendricks said third-party candidates can make a difference.
He said there is very little difference between Republican and Democratic lawmakers.
"The Democrats talk about all the benefits of big government and propose to make it bigger. The Republicans talk about the horrors of big government and propose to make it bigger."
Hendricks said that, if elected, he would propose legislation and vote only within constitutional limits.
Hendricks is a lifelong resident of Southeast Missouri. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
John and Joanie Hendricks attend Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
