Volunteers are urgently needed for various duties to participate in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, which will air on KFVS12 on Sept. 6.
"Volunteers are needed in all kinds of functions, from answering the pledge phones on camera to escorting guests to the proper place at the proper time," said Tammy Wubker, Muscular Dystrophy Association district director.
Those who wish to help can volunteer all day or any three-hour part of the day. Call (573) 335-4400 to volunteer.
The telethon will begin at 7 a.m. and run continuously until 6:30 p.m. Segments from Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse will be hosted by KFVS12 news anchors Mary-Ann Maloney and Dave Courvoisier.
Volunteers can work any of three shifts, each three hours in length. The first shift begins at 7 a.m, a second shift at 10 a.m., a third shift at 1 p.m. and the last shift at 4 p.m.
Eleven different areas are available. They range from telephone answerer to envelope stuffer to pledge tabulator and usher. Those who can't help on Labor Day but would still like to assist the telethon should call (573) 335-4400.
Proceeds from the telethon benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual, private contributors.
Services are provided through some 230 MDA clinics nationwide, including the MDA Clinic at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
