The Jackson Jaycees have been putting the final touches on their annual Fourth of July celebration in Jackson City Park. The activities will range from the Fun Run, sponsored by the Jackson Drug-Free Schools and Community Advisory Council; a car show and mud volleyball to the big event of the night, the fireworks...

The Jackson Jaycees have been putting the final touches on their annual Fourth of July celebration in Jackson City Park.

The activities will range from the Fun Run, sponsored by the Jackson Drug-Free Schools and Community Advisory Council; a car show and mud volleyball to the big event of the night, the fireworks.

The mud volleyball tournament is one of the most popular events of the day. Coordinators stress that entering early is important. Teams may enter by contacting Danny Watkins at 243-7418. The entry fee is $50 and is limited to the first 48 teams to register. Mail entry fees with the name of the team captain to Danny Watkins, c/o Jackson Jaycees, P.O. Box 7, Jackson, Mo., 63755.

A car and truck show is scheduled along with motorcycle and tractor classes. Anyone interested in entering a vehicle should contact Vince Martin at 243-5443.

A craft fair with several exhibitors will also be held in the park that day. Anyone wishing booth space should call Sherri Smith at 243-3462.

Other activities include games for kids and adults, watermelon and pie eating contests, a horseshoe tournament, dunking booth and magic show. Many of these events are free and the Jaycees encourage everyone to come to the park and celebrate.

There will also be a lot of delicious food and cool drinks for hungry and thirsty folks. Any organization interesting in having a concession stand should contact Tami McClain at 243-5818.

The Jaycees remind that fireworks and glass containers are prohibited in the park.
