Mud will be the order of the day as the Jackson Jaycees host their annual mud volleyball tournament in conjunction with the Fourth of July Celebration in the City Park.

Play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, in the park. Teams are limited to the first 48 that have paid. Teams are limited to eight players, six on the field and two alternates. One female must be on the playing field at all times. The entry fee will be $50 and must be paid upon registration.

Trophies and prize money will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams. First place will pay $150, second $75, and third $50. All person's who are interested in entering a team need to contact Kevin Payne at (314) 887-4268 or Patty Reisenbichler at the Chamber of Commerce at (314) 243-8131 for a registration form and a complete rules list. The form must be returned with entry fee by June 25.

We would like to remind everyone that this event does fill quickly and if you are interested, we would urge you to call for your entry as soon as possible.

Crafts of all kinds will also be in the park on the 4th as the Jackson Jaycees host the 2nd Annual Craft Fair as part of the Fourth of July activities. As of now there are wood crafters, Kettle cooked popcorn vendors, and various other crafters of all kinds on the schedule of events. If you are interested in having a crafters booth you can contact Deanna Meyer at 243-9159 for a registration form. We would like to remind people that space is limited to the first 20 crafters. If you are interested, please don't hesitate to reserve your booth.

Cars and trucks from all over the tri-state area will be in attendance at the Jackson Jaycee's Fourth of July Car and Truck Show. In past years, the show has attracted a wide spectrum of vehicles to show. This years show will also see a variety of motorcycle divisions along with a tractor class. There will also be various fire engines and other service vehicles in the park. With a total of 37 classes in the show, it promises to have all types of vehicles. If anyone is interested in showing their vehicle or would like more information on the show they can contact Marshall Steen at 243-6080.

The Fourth of July Celebration will also offer the opportunity for you to tempt your taste buds with a variety of food stands and snacks available that day. For anyone who may be interested in having a food stand, contact Rick Saupe at 243-8400 (days) or 243-7567 (nights).

The Jaycees also pride themselves on the fact that they offer a variety of activities absolutely free for both adults and kids. These activities will include a variety of kids games put on by the Drug Advisory Council, pie and watermelon eating contests for adults and children, and also a variety of adult games. There will also be free magic shows planned throughout the day.

The Jaycees will also have other activities planned the entire day topped off with a municipal band concert and a fireworks display that night. The Jaycees would also like to remind everyone that fireworks and glass containers are prohibited in the city park.
