JOPLIN, Mo. -- Jasper County authorities were investigating a scuba diving accident that resulted in the death of a sheriff's deputy.

Sgt. Scott Arner, a member of the department's dive team, had been diving with others Friday in an area northwest of Joplin, authorities said.

"He was taking part in an investigation for the Jasper County Sheriffs Department," Sheriffs Capt. Tony Coleman said.

An autopsy conducted over the weekend revealed no signs of trauma. The Greene County Medical Examiner's office said Arner may have had problems with his breathing regulator.
