A Japanese scholar will visit Southeast Missouri State University from Oct. 29 to Nov. 6 to conduct research at the university's Center for Faulkner Studies and deliver guest lectures.
Professor Kiyoko Toyama is the recipient of the 2000 BioKyowa Visiting Japanese Scholar award.
Toyama teaches Japanese and American literature at Tokyo Women's Christian University.
Toyama's visit to Southeast is sponsored by BioKyowa Inc., a Japanese firm that operates a manufacturing plant in Cape Girardeau.
"William Faulkner is greatly respected in Japan," said Kohta Fujiwara, president of the company, "and BioKyowa is pleased to support Toyama' visit to this campus and community."
Toyama has published articles and books on Japanese, American and Spanish authors. Her most recent book, "Faulkner and the Modern Fable," will be issued in English translation by the University Press of America later this year.
BioKyowa Inc., currently produces L-Lysine, and with a new expansion, will produce Threonine and Trytophan, which are animal feed supplements for the agricultural industry.
