The Southeast Missouri State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform the American premier of a work by a Japanese composer at a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Academic Hall Auditorium.
The composition by Masaru Tanaka, entitled "Methuselah II," combines traditional Japanese melodies with the more contemporary sounds of the modern concert band, and features the ensemble's percussion section.
The concert also will feature Louisa Panou-Takahashi, assistant professor of music, and Christopher Goeke, Southeast instructor of music, as soloists on songs by Richard Strauss.
Other program selections include Norman Dello Joio's "Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn" and the "West Point Symphony" of Morton Gould.
Southeast students, staff and faculty will be admitted to the concert free of charge with a university I.D. Admission charges are $4 for adults, and $2 for non-university students and senior citizens. All proceeds will benefit the music department's scholarship fund.
