The city of Jackson this morning will begin the first phase of the $11.5 million water-system improvements that voters approved in August 2015.
The Water System Facility Plan Implementation Project will replace outdated 2-inch and 4-inch water mains with 8-inch ones, among other improvements.
The project will be completed by spring 2017, weather permitting. Updates will be posted on the city’s website at www.jacksonmo.org.
This month, crews will service locations at West Madison Street, South Russell Street and Oak Street.
In September, they’re scheduled to move on to Cecile Drive, Alvin Street, Dorothy Drive and West Main Street.
October will be North Russell Street, West Adams Street and South Bast Street. In November, it will be South Union Avenue.
The city says no roads will be closed during the work, but some may be temporarily restricted to one-lane traffic.
Motorists are asked to restrict use to local traffic only. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution in and near the work zones and are advised to stay back at least 100 feet, according to a city release.
