Voters in Jackson gave overwhelming approval Tuesday to a $16 million bond package to build a new elementary school on North Lacey Street.

The bond issue passed 2,536 votes to 1,084, or 70 percent to 30 percent.

Technical problems held up the counting of Jackson school district precincts, and full totals weren't released until almost 10 p.m.

In Cape Girardeau's Ward 3 city council race, Trent Summers won with 205 votes compared to Ellen Dillon's 116.

Summers is an account executive with Red Letter Communications whose background includes work in state politics. Dillon is an instructor of communication at Southeast Missouri State University.

In the Cape Girardeau School Board race, Kyle McDonald and Lynn Ware won seats, which Deneke Murphy was denied.

In the Oak Ridge school district, a bond issue also passed by a large margin. Voters said yes by a margin of 90 percent to 10 percent to a bond issue to fund improvements and repairs to school facilities. Five of seven precincts were in.

In the Jackson school board race, Brent Wills and Paul Stoner took seats on the school board over Pat Wissman.
