A boil-water order is in effect for areas of Jackson until noon Wednesday.

A contractor damaged a water main Monday afternoon, according to a news release from Jackson city engineer's office.

Residents east of Shawnee Boulevard and Greensferry Road from north of Clark Street, and north of Brookside Park and the Meadows at Oak Creek should boil water vigorously for three minutes before use, the release said.

Residents are cautioned to use only boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and all other food preparation and consumption, including ice cubes.

Dishes and other surfaces in contact with food should be disinfected by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water containing one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water, the release said. Bath water does not need to be boiled.
