The Jackson Police Department is planning to have extra officers on patrol beginning Dec. 6 in an attempt to keep impaired motorists off the streets.

The extra enforcement is made possible through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation for the "You Drink and Drive. You Lose." campaign, according to a news release from the police department.

The focus of the enforcement is to stop people from drinking and driving during the Christmas season.

"Impaired driving is a preventable crime and we intend to crack down so drivers feel secure when traveling on Missouri's roadways," Lt. Chris Mouser said in a news release.
