JACKSON, Mo. A request for a special-use permit to build a communications tower on East Jackson Boulevard was tabled by the Jackson Board of Aldermen Monday after the owner of a nearby laboratory said he is concerned about possible health effects.

Roberts Wireless Communications proposes erecting the tower for Sprint at 4034 E. Jackson Blvd. The tower would be 180 feet from Environmental South Inc.

David Warren, president of the laboratory, provided the board with Federal Communications Commission regulations governing microwave radiation and said his only concern is whether the tower satisfies those regulations.

He said some of his 15 employees are worried about the tower as well.

The board instructed Rodney Bollinger, the city's planning and zoning supervisor, to evaluate whether the tower is within FCC guidelines before the board votes on the permit Nov. 6.
