Jackson High School industrial technology teacher Andy Stover recently received the Southeast High School Technology and Engineering Teacher of the Year Award.
Few knew about it until the July school board meeting, where assistant principal Travis Wilson announced it.
"It really wasn't about me," Stover said. "It was more about the kids."
He was selected for the award by his peers, but doesn't know who nominated him. Stover said he didn't previously know the recognition existed.
"I was very humbled, especially with it being peer-based, and shocked, as well. We have got a lot of good teachers locally," Stover said.
Stover, who teaches machine tool technology and energy and power, a small-engine exploratory class, went to Springfield, Missouri, to accept the award, along with Wilson and a co-teacher, Anthony Stegeman.
