The annual Asphalt Street Improvement Program in Jackson is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Roadway improvements will include repairs on North Union Avenue, Luetje Street, Oak Street, West Mary Street, Wimbledon Drive, Stoneyledge Drive, Toboggan Hill, North Farmington Road, East Main Street, Greensferry Road and Birk Lane, according to a news release from Erica Bogenpohl, staff engineer for the city. Work is dependent upon the weather but expected to be complete within a month, the release said.

Motorists traveling along East Main Street will be detoured along East Adams Street via South Georgia and South Neal streets, the release said. Traffic will be detoured along Elm and North Russell streets for temporary closures at North Union and Parkview streets and at the low-water bridge on West Mary Street. All other areas will be restricted to one-lane traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while work is being performed. Signs will be posted and flaggers will be onsite as required. The public is advised to restrict use to local traffic only, the release said.
