After a week full of severe weather, one of Jackson's storm sirens is not functioning.

Jackson fire chief Jason Mouser said the malfunction's cause has not been determined and could take more than a week to fix.

"[Two weeks] would be the worst-case scenario," he said Friday. "We're hoping [to have it fixed by] the end of next week."

But the other eight sirens still are functional, and Mouser said, the South High Street siren's breakdown is a relatively small setback.

"If there was one to go out, this is the best one out of the nine because there's so much overlap in the system," he said. "This one's in the middle of the town, so we still have about 95 percent coverage of the city."

Still, he urged residents to stay aware of severe warning via radio and Internet alerts.

The city will issue another announcement when the storm-siren issue is resolved.

Pertinent address:

South High Street, Jackson, Mo.
