JACKSON SETS HIGH GOALS FOR SEASON

Coach Bonnie Knowlan enters her second year at the helm of the Jackson High School Soccer Team and she said this year's team has a lot of talent, speed and depth.

The team had a 3-2 record going into Friday's game against Carbondale. Jackson also played Giabault on Saturday, scores for these matches were unavailable at press time.

"We're starting to play well as a team, that's what we're working toward," Knowlan said.

We are going to key on our speed, she added.

The team has set high goals for themselves. Knowlan said it was their goal to win district this year.

Knowlan said she expects her team to get better with every game.

This year's team is the most skilled team Jackson has ever had.

"Hopefully, they will gel at the same time and we'll be able to achieve our goals we've set for ourselves," Knowlan said.

Dee Jones (#25, senior) is a real strong play maker. He is a leader and he always hustles. He has matured a lot this year, Knowlan said.

Derrick Johnston (#13, senior) returns from last year's squad. Knowlan said he is going to be a dominant mid-fielder.

Ryan Strickland (#10, senior) will also be a dominant mid-fielder for the Jackson team, according to Knowlan.

Nick Garner (#22, senior) plays a smart fullback for the team.

Bob Green (#27, senior) this fullback is blessed with unbelievable speed and plays an aggressive style of soccer.

Dylan Jones (#35, senior) is going to be a strong mid-fielder for Jackson this year, according to Knowlan.

Mike Smith (#29, senior) will help out backing up goalie and mid-field, Knowlan said.

Josh Lukefahr (#24, senior) is playing his first year of soccer and will split time between the JV and varsity teams.

Brandon Blattel (#30, junior), Garrett Knowlan (#8, junior), Robbie Hrabik (#15, junior) and Garret Fink (#32, junior) all will contribute greatly to the team at the outside mid-field position.

Eric Rhodes (#34, junior) plays fullback. Knowlan expects him to contribute a lot to the team this year with his aggressive style of play. "He never quits," Knowlan added.

Zane McClard (#18, junior) is a real strong left-footed player that makes good decisions, Knowlan said.

Jeremy Balsman (#36, junior) has been a real key for Jackson playing goalie.

Chris Schuette (#31, junior) is injured. "We need him. We are looking forward to his return."

Nathan Windeknecht (#11, sophomore) will prove to be a real strong forward for us, Knowlan said.

Ben Turner (#16, sophomore) is playing really well on defense for Jackson.

"It's nice to have a team this deep," Knowlan said.

Jackson will play at Marion on Thursday.
