Jackson School District fiscally sound, audit says

The Jackson School District is financially sound, according to an audit approved by the school board.

Amanda Tinney, of LarsonAllen, presented the audit at the board's meeting Tuesday.

According to the audit, the district's net assets decreased by $6.2 million. The 26.6 percent decrease from 2008 was mostly because of money allocated to ongoing construction projects, she said. This summer, the district completed the first phase of construction at the high school, which included new art, dining and event facilities.

During the meeting, the board also approved the employee health and dental insurance plan for the 2010-2011 school year. The cost to provide insurance increased by 9 percent districtwide, said superintendent Dr. Ron Anderson.

"Of course, it's driven by usage," he said.

The district contracts with CBIZ, a business service company, to provide the benefits. The cost for a family plan increased from $1,368 to $1,492 per month. The cost for an employee-only plan increased from $456 to $497 per month.

In other business, the board approved board policies BDC, BDDF, GCB, GCD, IIAC, IIAC-R and IICC.
