The Jackson School Board will decide at its 7 p.m. meeting today whether to submit an application for a grant that would be used for updating equipment in the high school's business department.

The Vocational-Technical Education Enhancement grant, which is administered through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is applied for annually by the department, said superintendent Ron Anderson.

"Historically, we've had some good success with those, and we hope it continues," he said.

The grant money has helped pay for new computers in the past, Anderson said, and the funds sometimes can be used to purchase furniture for the equipment.

The grant not only would pay the full cost, but the district would receive matching funds between 50 and 75 percent. The application will request a specific amount, Anderson said, and more details will be available at tonight's meeting.

The board also will consider course changes for the 2015-2016 school year that would add classes to the high school's social studies department.

Anderson said more information about the proposed changes will be provided tonight before the board makes its decision.

The meeting also will include a demonstration by the high school's robotics team that will show what the group has been working on for an upcoming competition.
