The Jackson School Board approved bus routes for the upcoming school year and set the date for a tax rate hearing at a regular meeting Tuesday. The tax rate hearing, scheduled for Aug. 26, is a routine yearly event, said Dr. Ron Anderson. The tax levy, set at $3.80 per $100 assessed valuation, will not change, he said. Despite rising fuel costs, bus routes will only change to accommodate new students or homes. One route was added to reduce the time special needs students are on the bus. In many districts throughout the country, routes are being consolidated to reduce costs. Anderson said the district was already running its buses efficiently. Anderson gave an update on construction at the high school, saying the roof on the Events Center should be completed by the end of this week.
