The 63 Rotary clubs in District 6060 have set a goal to complete construction of seven Habitat for Humanity homes throughout the district, which covers most of eastern Missouri from Hannibal to the Bootheel. The Jackson Rotary Club is holding a dance to raise funds that will contribute to its share for the cause. The Jackson club's target is to build one home in Southeast Missouri, most likely in the Cape Girardeau/Jackson area. Efforts of the Perryville, Jackson, Sikeston and all three Cape Girardeau area Rotary Clubs will be combined to build the house.
A Hawaiian luau-style dance is planned from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall on U.S. 61 North. Tickets purchased in advance will be discounted. Adult beverages will be served and door prizes offered. For more information, contact Brett Nelson at 579-0660, Vanita Jones at (573) 833-6323, Brad Kasten at 270-0921 or Pee Wee Bartels at 450-6911.
The building project will be coordinated by the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity, whose mission is to help capable people experience home ownership by providing financing to the homeowner for purchase of a simple, affordable home. All Habitat homeowners are screened with approval given only to those families who have demonstrated longterm employment, appropriate credit history and an extreme desire for home ownership.
The homeowner, the Rotary Clubs and Habitat for Humanity plan to work on the home's construction by late spring 2006.
All proceeds from the dance will be donated to the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity for construction of another home in the Cape Girardeau/Jackson area.
