Jackson residents hurt when vehicle hits tree

Two Jackson residents were taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau early Friday after the vehicle they were traveling in struck a tree.

Danny Brown, 43, and Melonie Powers, 49, sustained serious injuries after the driver of the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero they were in failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. The vehicle was traveling south on Route U, about two miles north of Crump, and crashed about 3:40 a.m., the report said. The vehicle was totaled.

The driver of the vehicle is undetermined and still under investigation at this time, according to the report.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, the report said.
