Jackson is home to a new Missouri Lottery winner.
Benny Myers, 65, went straight to St. Louis to claim his prize after learning he won $398,000 playing Show Me Cash, a daily draw game, according to a news release from the Missouri Lottery.
While claiming the jackpot June 12, Myers said he had checked the numbers from the night before while on his lunch break, the release said.
"I scanned it and didn't really believe it. I had them print me out the numbers from last night, and sure enough," he said.
The winning Quick Pick ticket -- with numbers 14, 18, 27, 32 and 37 -- was purhased at Jackson ZX, 1831 E. Jackson Blvd., the release said. The store received a $500 bonus for the sale.
Myers said he regularly plays the birthdates of his grandchildren.
"When it gets that size, I buy several," Myers said in the release.
Show Me Cash jackpots start at $50,000 and grow until somone wins, according to the Missouri Lottery. Forty-six Show Me Cash jackpots have been awarded in the past 12 months.
Myers said in the release he called his daughter, Mindy, who lives in the St. Louis area, to go with him to claim his prize.
He joked he told his wife he "won just enough to buy her a new set of tires for her pickup. ... She'll find out after a while."
Myers said the plan was to become "debt-free," and retirement is a possibility.
"I was nervous, but not so much now," he said.
