To the editor:
Our 1999 summer reading program, "Reading Time '99," was a great success. Every child completing the 20-book requirement received a free book of his choosing; a certificate signed by Gov. Mel Carnahan, Secretary of State Bekki Cook and Missouri librarians; and good memories of a program that was at least as much fun for us as it was for our young patrons.
Our efforts could not have enjoyed the same success without the cooperation of many generous people. We are especially grateful to the Jackson Public Library Board, the Noon Optimists, Dean Crites, Shane Anderson and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce for their support; local schools and faculty for their enthusiasm; and local media for their assistance in publicizing "Reading Time '99." We thank you for your time and interest.
Special thanks as well to all our terrific guests who made room for us in their busy schedules: Terri Popp, Steve Compas, Bill Coomer: and the fine gentlemen from the Jackson Post Office, Fred Margrabe and Mike Heuschober. You've been a great help, and we will always remember you.
There were several good-hearted patrons who kindly volunteered time, labor, brainstorming and materials. Finally, our most heartfelt thanks go to the adults and children who participated in "Reading Time '99." We think the world of each of you and enjoyed having you with us this summer. Be sure to join us next year for more reading adventures. We look forward to seeing you. Remember, it's always a good time to read, so keep up the good work.
