JACKSON -- The St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad in Jackson will host Indian Weekend Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to train rides, the railroad will present a museum-like display of Indian artifacts, some of them rare and lent by private collectors.
The station will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Train rides, during which "Indians" will "attack" the train, are scheduled on Saturday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. On Sunday rides will begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Train hostesses will dress in Indian costumes.
On Saturday night, a special dinner train will depart at 6 p.m. en route to Dutchtown. It will include piano entertainment and "Indian attacks."
The railroad is also planning special events for Mother's Day weekend. A five-hour train trip to Delta will include games, prizes and an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. Tickets are $24.50; mothers will receive half off the ticket price.
Earlier that day, the train leaves at 1 p.m. for a fried-chicken dinner on the train. Adult tickets are $14.50; mothers will receive half off. On the 3 p.m. ride, Mom's ticket is free when accompanied by a paying passenger. Tickets for the 3 p.m. ride are $8 for adults and $3 for children.
