The high cost of asphalt may hinder several street repairs this year in Jackson as city officials prepare to advertise for bids.
City engineer Kent Peetz said the city has several projects it would like to complete under its 2006 asphalt street maintenance program. The projects include patching potholes on Bainbridge Road, an asphalt overlay on a section of Farmington Road, repaving city hall's parking lot and resurfacing the trail around Rotary Lake.
"These are just our goals that we're hoping to complete," Peetz said. "With the high price of asphalt these days, we'll have to wait and see when bids come in."
The city will advertise for bids within the next few weeks, Peetz said. If bids are favorable, the city hopes to begin work shortly after.
Asphalt street repairs will be paid for out of the transportation tax revenue. Repaving city hall's parking lot will be paid with funds out of the budget for general maintenance. And the Rotary Lake Trail resurfacing project will be paid for out of the Parks Department budget.
