Jackson police looking into series of daytime burglaries

Jackson police are investigating a recent series of burglaries that have occurred during the daytime.

In the past three weeks, six to eight homes in the central and west areas of Jackson have been broken into during daytime hours and jewelry has been reported stolen, Jackson Police Chief Jame Humphreys said.

Police do not have any suspects in the burglaries.

The burglaries have occurred in the middle of the day, and many of the victims have come home from work to discover their jewelry missing, Humphreys said.

Humphreys suggested being "alert and conscientious" of suspicious people in neighborhoods and encouraged residents to lock their doors when they are not home.

The burglaries appear similar to the more than 100 burglaries committed by Mark Lowery in 2009 in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, in which he targeted mostly jewelry and cash.
