On Dec. 9, the Jackson Police Department will be examined inside and out by a team of assessors from the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement agencies, according to a news release from the police department.
At the end of the visit, the assessment team will help to decide whether the Jackson Police Department meets the commission's standards for using the latest, most state-of-the-art procedures and policies.
Among the factors assessed during the accreditation process are relationships with other agencies, personnel administration, traffic enforcement, and prisoner- and court-related services.
As part of the accreditation process the Jackson Police Department began in 2005, the assessment team provides a report of their findings to the Board of Commissioners, which will then hold a hearing to rule on accreditation.
The assessment includes a public information session to hear resident's comments on the police department's functions, scheduled for Dec. 10 at 5 p.m., in the council chambers at Jackson City Hall.
Anyone not able to make the public session is invited to provide comments at 573-243-2411 between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. on Dec. 10.
