The Jackson Board of Aldermen set spring cleanup week and took some necessary steps toward a couple of key street projects at Monday night's regular session meeting.
Spring cleanup/fix-up days -- the week that trash collectors pick up extra trash -- will take place from May 12-16.
The board also authorized a contractual agreement with Smith & Co. out of Poplar Bluff to design and engineer the second phase of the East Main Street extension project, which will run from Oak Hill Road to Interstate 55. The contract will be for $85,825.
The board passed a resolution to move forward on an improvement of Old Orchard Road. According to city engineer Dan Triller, the majority of property owners along the road have requested that the gravel road near Buchheit be improved. The concrete street will extend about 1,100 feet to the water tower and will also be widened. The street has already been designed. The city will now move forward on the tax-billing process.
