The third annual "Kids in the Park" will be held Saturday, June 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jackson City Park. It will be held in the area between Shelter #4 and Shelter #5 at Safety City USA...

The third annual "Kids in the Park" will be held Saturday, June 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jackson City Park. This event, sponsored by the Noon Optimist Club of Jackson, will feature a safety fair with a carnival atmosphere complete with games, clowns, balloons, and prizes. It will be held in the area between Shelter #4 and Shelter #5 at Safety City USA.

Some of the day's events will include A Red Cross water safety display, Freddie the Firetruck, County Firefighter's "Smokehouse," and St. Francis's "Safe Kids Coalition" will do face painting.

Children will be able to have their picture taken with Vince and Larry, the crash dummies, and fingerprinting will be conducted by the Jackson Police Department. Parents can have their child fingerprinted and these will be kept on file with the police department.

Southeast Wellness Center will participate , the Mr. Oppi Story will be told on the hour, and line dancing will be taught at the band shell.

Relay games will begin at 11:30 a.m. and continue till about 2:00 p.m. There will be races for children five and under, ages six to seven, ages eight to nine and for children 10 and over.

Ribbons will be awarded for relay games and prizes will be given at all other games. Children will get a prize each time they play. All games are free and there is no admission charge.

A food stand will be located at Shelter #5 so families can come out, eat lunch and enjoy an afternoon of fun and games. Hot dogs, chips and soda will be provided free to all children, there is a 25 cent charge for adults.

"Kids Day in the Park," is a special day for the children of the Jackson area and their families, and is being conducted in conjunction with the nationwide "Optimist in Action Day." Last year the event drew around 1,200 children and adults.

All parents in the Jackson/Cape area are encouraged to bring their children to "Kids Day in the Park" near Safety City USA where learning is always fun.
