The Jackson Municipal Band's final weekly concert for the year will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the bandshell on Route D in Jackson City Park. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating. The concert is free.
Two additional concerts will be held at Homecomers. On Aug. 14, the band will perform at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn in Jackson. On Aug. 19, it will perform on stage at Homecomers.
Special entertainment Thursday will be Pat Schwent and the Saxy Jazz Quartet. Band members are Pat Schwent, former band director for three decades mostly at Jackson High School; Pete Parysek on keyboards and vocals; Steve Williams on drums; and Jim Wall on bass. The group performs throughout Missouri and Illinois with popular jazz styles and a little blues, swing, rock and country mixed in.
The band's portion of the concert will include marches such as "Americans We," "Washington Post" and "Strategic Air Command." A collection of hits by Eric Clapton will be presented in "Pop and Rock Legends." The saxophone section will be featured with "Root Beer Rag."
