JACKSON -- A year after the Frontier Motel reopened, it has joined the Day's Inn Motel chain.

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the motel here Monday marked the official change from Frontier Motel to Day's Inn.

The Frontier, which was destroyed by fire in August of 1989, reopened in mid-May of 1990 at its original location, 517 Highway 61 East in Jackson.

Ashvin and Damina Patel owned the 18-unit motel seven years. When it reopened, the two-story, 9,000-square-foot structure included 22 units.

The new rooms are 12 x 24 feet, expanded from the former structure's 14 x 16 feet rooms.

The Patels are the fourth owner of the motel, which was constructed in 1951 by Vernon Fee, who operated the motel until 1951, when he sold it to Delmer Crain.

Crain operated the business until 1969, selling to Bernard Twesten, who kept it until 1983, when it was purchased by Patel.

The Twestens attended the latest ribbon-cutting when the motel became Day's Inn. Others at the ceremony included Paul Sander, Jackson Chamber of Commerce president, and other chamber representatives Jim Meavers, and Patty Reisenbichler. Also at the ribbon cutting were Peggy Howard and John P. and Janet Dalton.
