Jackson man seriously hurt in crash

A Jackson driver was seriously injured in a crash Saturday afternoon in Cape Girardeau County.

A Buick Century driven by Christopher H. Atkins, 50, ran off the left side of the road on Route V and hit a culvert about five miles south of Highway 177, just after 3:30 p.m., according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Atkins had to be extricated from the vehicle after it had struck a culvert and overturned. The Cape Girardeau Fire Department and East County Fire Protection District responded to the scene.

Atkins was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
