A former NCAA All-American football player, Brueggeman played offensive line and was a captain for Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. He later played for the River City Rage of the United Indoor Football League.

Quincy University head coach Bill Terlisner recruited Brueggeman while he was a student at Southwestern High School in Piasa, Ill.

"I'm just speechless," Terlisner said Friday morning. "He was a great player and person and led by example."

Brueggeman and his wife, Deana, are expecting their first child in the coming weeks, Terlisner said.
