A Jackson man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a female relative and fleeing from police.
Justin K. Lane, 25, was charged with second-degree domestic assault, resisting arrest and second-degree property damage.
The victim told police the incident began Thursday when Lane and another person she did not know appeared at the home in an intoxicated state, according to a probable-cause statement. The victim told police that after she did not allow the other person inside the home, Lane became "loud and combative," allegedly knocking several holes into the walls, pulling a large portion of the ceiling down and grabbing the victim and choking her by the throat after demanding she hand over her keys.
The victim then called 911, screaming "he is going to kill me," the probable-cause statement said. Upon arrival at the residence, Jackson police officer Anthony Henson found the victim running toward the street and yelling "please help me" several times.
Henson then saw Lane running to the west side of the residence.
"That is him, he tried to kill me," the victim said in the probable-cause statement.
A foot chase ensued, and moments later Lane fell to the ground. However, Henson said, Lane refused to surrender. Henson said he used a Taser on Lane at that point.
Other officers tried to handcuff Lane and, after a further struggle, Henson succeeded.
Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said that Lane remained in the Cape Girardeau County Jail on Friday afternoon. Bond is set at $5,000.
