Cape Girardeau County sheriff’s deputies on Monday arrested a Jackson man suspected of abusing his 19-month-old son and inflicting injuries serious enough to require hospitalization, deputies said.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Devin Biri, 28, with felony child abuse.

His bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.

The child suffered a skull fracture and bruises all over his body and was taken by ambulance to a St. Louis hospital Monday, according to a sheriff’s department news release Tuesday afternoon.

The child is in stable condition, the release stated.

Sheriff’s Capt. David James said the child’s injuries were consistent with being inflicted by another person and did not appear to be accidental.

The child lived with Biri and his mother, James said.

James said there also could be charges filed against the mother.

James declined to comment on what the investigation revealed about how the child sustained the injuries.
