Jackson's Jennifer Brown (#2) tries for a goal against Cape Central as Jessica Schultz (#4) follows behind.
The Jackson Lady Indian Soccer team has played well this season.
Going into Friday's contest with Ft. Zumwalt they were 9-3-1 on the season.
Jackson finished second last year in the district and is looking to improve upon that by winning a district championship this year.
The only problem is that all three of Jackson's losses have come to district rival Cape Central.
We'd like to finish first, to do that, we'll have to beat Cape. They're (Lady Indians) looking forward to the challenge," Knowlan said.
Coach Bonnie Knowlan said that Cape and Jackson should be seeded one and two in the upcoming district tournament during the week of May 19.
Knowlan said she thinks her team is starting to gel at the right time.
"We are playing well as a unit and our offense is coming on now," she said.
Knowlan said she hopes to catch Cape off guard in the tournament and beat them.
In Tuesday's loss to Cape, Knowlan said that her team made two critical mistakes to allow Cape's two goals that beat them.
Jackson's even offensive attack along with the team's strength as a defensive unit has led them to their good record so far this season.
Jackson has four regular season matches left before the district tournament begins.
"We're pretty young but we are playing really well. We're a lot smaller than the other teams we're playing," Knowlan said.
Knowlan said that her team is comfortable playing both offensive and defensive style soccer.
As a program in its second year things are looking up. Last year's team finished 10-5 and second place in the district. This season there are more regular season games as more teams are placing Jackson on their schedule and as other high school's add girls soccer to their athletic programs.
Next year's schedule has been filled. Next year Jackson will play 18 regular season games and a tournament.
Knowlan starts five seniors, one junior, four sophomores and one freshman. So the future looks bright for the Lady Indians.
