It's kindergarten enrollment time, and in Jackson many of the incoming kindergartners are homegrown.

Rita Fisher, assistant superintendent of the Jackson School District, said next year's kindergarten class will be made up of about 150 students from the district's preschool program.

"That's a large number for us," Fisher told the Jackson School Board at its meeting Tuesday evening.

Kindergarten enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at South Elementary School, 1701 S. Hope St.

At the other end of the education spectrum, board members set this year's graduation for May 19.
