The Jackson Jazz Band, under the direction of Pat Schwent, won first place at the Air National Guard Jazz Contest held in St. Louis. Jackson was one of seven schools to participate in the afternoon competition.

In addition to receiving first place, the following students received recognition for outstanding jazz solo performances: Matt Pittman, Scott Coppin, Jamie Brothers, Mark King and Krissy Swinford. Brandon Suedekum was chosen Outstanding Soloist of the day and received a $150 scholarship to further his jazz education.
