In an effort to promote the recycling of Christmas wrapping paper and cardboard boxes, and also to bring more attention to the recycling center, the City of Jackson is sponsoring a customer appreciation day for its recycling customers the Saturday following Christmas.

The recycling center, located at 508 Eastview Court, will be open from 8 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. on Dec. 27.

The city will hold a "Winter R & R (Rest and Recycling) Contest and the winner will receive free weekly recycling curb pick-up from the recycling department. The city will provide refreshments at the recycling center and city residents can sign up for the drawing.

"This is the time of year when recycling should be promoted at it's fullest," said Jackson public works director Rodney Bollinger. "We encourage our citizens to bring their goods to the center in lieu of stuffing their trash bags to the hilt or buying extra tags in order to dispose of their holiday waste. This event is our small way of saying thank you to all of those citizens who participate in Jackson's recycling program."
