The Jackson High School instrumental department will hold its annual spring concerts in the high school gym on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., featuring the Concert and Symphonic bands, and on Monday at 7:30 p.m., featuring the Jazz Band.
The Concert Band, conducted by Scott Vangilder and Pat Schwent, will perform "Black Tower March," Concertant for Winds," "Canyonlands" and "Tunbridge Overture."
The Symphonic Band, conducted by Nick Leist, will perform "Hounds of Spring," Eternal Father, Strong to Save," a new Barker arrangement entitled "Gershwin" and "Spanish Fever."
Under the leadership of Schwent, the Jazz Band has won numerous awards this school year during competition at Springfield, Flat River and Cape Girardeau. They will perform several new arrangements of the old standards, including "Strike Up the Band," Paper Moon," "Star Dust," "My Blue Heaven" and more.
There is no admission charge to either concert.
