The Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization is taking design submissions for the painting of several electrical boxes to make them festive, rather than an eyesore.
Susan Hahs is in charge of the organization’s project and said she got the idea from seeing similar urban folk art in other cities around the state.
“They look really cool, especially compared to those old, ugly boxes,” Hahs said.
Designs must avoid dark colors to prevent the boxes from overheating in sunlight and incorporate into their surroundings. The two green boxes by the gazebo in the Jackson Courthouse Square and the stainless steel box on the corner of High Street and Adam Street are available for painting.
Designs will be evaluated according to how well the design reflects life in Jackson, the suitability of the design with its surroundings and the degree to which it reflects the history or happenings of the area.
Artwork must not contain political statements or persons, religious references, symbols or numbers, copyrighted material, organizational or corporate branding or advertising.
A full list of requirements and an application may be obtained from the Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization.
Submissions must be received before June 1 for consideration.
