JACKSON - A Jackson Jaycees member who has coordinated several major community service projects in Jackson is this year's recipient of the Jackson Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award.
Brent Wills, 30, of 908 Priest, received the award during the Jackson Jaycees' 35th annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet Saturday.
Wills was nominated and selected for the coordinating roles he has served in the Jackson Jaycees' July Fourth celebration, the Jaycees' haunted house project, the annual Jackson Christmas parade and other projects.
In addition to his work with the Jaycees, Wills was also cited for his activities in the civic club and organizations he belongs to, including his church, Millersville Baptist Church, where he is currently serving as finance chairman of the church's new building program. Wills is also a member of the Jackson Optimist Club.
Wills is a past president, treasurer, and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jackson Jaycees. He has also served as past president and treasurer of the Jackson Retail Merchants Association, and is a past board member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce.
He has been active in a number of community fund-raising activities for muscular dystrophy, Easter Seals, The American Cancer Society and the Area Wide United Way campaign.
Wills owns and operates an insurance agency representing Farmer's Insurance Group. He was previously a loan officer for Capital Bank.
Last year's DSA winner was Jackson Alderman Phil Johnston.
This year's The Big Boss award was presented to the city employees of Jackson for their support of on-going Jackson Jaycees projects such as the haunted house, July Fourth celebration, and Christmas parade.
City Administrator Carl Talley accepted "The Big Boss" award on behalf of the employees.
"Jackson city employees have done an outstanding job in support of our many community service projects," said Wills. "They have really bent over backwards to help us when we asked for help. Without these people, none of our successful projects could be completed each year."
Wills said employees in the Jackson fire, police, street, and public works departments are among those who have provided valuable assistance to the Jaycees each year.
