Jackson will host its annual e-cycle event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its recycling center, 508 Eastview Court.
More than 83,500 pounds of appliances and other electronic waste were collected from Cape Girardeau County during last year's e-cycle.
Accepted items include lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, tools, bicycles, air conditioners, barbecue grills, water heaters, ranges, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, small appliances, laptop computers, monitors, TVs, computers, keyboards, mice, printers, fax machines, scanners, speakers, cameras, VCRs, DVD players, gaming systems and game cartridges, music equipment, wires and cable, power supplies, radios, typewriters, humidifiers and dehumidifiers, curling irons, hair dryers, fans, vacuum cleaners, and lead and rechargeable batteries, according to a news release from the city.
Items not accepted include AAA-, AA-, C- and D-type batteries, tires, radioactive materials, items containing mercury and other hazardous waste items. No trash will be accepted.
Midwest Recycling Center will conduct all e-cycling activities using approved waste management practices, the release said. Accepted items will be unloaded by the center's employees.
Hard drives from computers will be shredded or erased using U.S. Department of Defense-approved software. All computer monitors and one TV per Jackson household will be recycled at no charge. Additional TVs will cost $15 per TV per vehicle. Nonresidents will be charged $15 per television. Other accepted materials may be disposed of at no charge.
M&J Shredding also will offer on-site shredding services for Jackson residents at no charge from 9 a.m. to noon.
