The city of Jackson will collect extra garbage next week as part of its spring cleanup program.
From May 12-6, the sanitation department will pick up all refuse placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled trash pick-up day.
The three-bag limit will not be enforced, so additional bag stickers will not be required for household waste.
All refuse must be placed at the curb by 8 a.m. on the normal trash collection day. The items placed at the curb will be disposed of, including trash cans and other containers.
The city will not pick up grass, leaves, motor oil, tires or hazardous materials.
Brush and limbs must be tied in bundles of 4 to 5 feet long.
Appliances must be at the curb. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be gas-free with the compressor and door removed.
The city will only pick up one appliance per household. An additional $10 charge will be applied for each additional appliance.
For residents only
The service is intended for Jackson residents only. Depositing solid waste or major appliances belonging to a person not a resident of Jackson is illegal and punishable by a fine of not less than $500 if convicted.
For more information, call the sanitation department at 243-5691 or the public works department at 243-2300.
