JACKSON -- New officers were sworn in for the Jackson Chamber of Commerce Monday night.

Jeff Moore, vice president of Ross Furniture, will serve as president for the 1996-97 term. Brent Wills, Wills Insurance, and John N. Thompson, Boatmen's Bank, will serve as vice president and secretary-treasurer, respectively.

"I feel like everything is on the right track," Moore said. "We want to decrease some debt and we'll due that through fund-raising."

Continuing to work on increasing the chamber's membership will also be a priority, he said.

"One thing I'd like to do is try to increase community awareness about the chamber and what we do," Moore said.

Moore said he also hopes to work more on promoting the city's tourist attractions and the city itself for business and industry recruitment.

Retiring president Larry Turner outlined several highlights of the 1995-96 year.

"One of the things that we're proud of last year and that worked well was an increase of 25 percent in our membership," he said.

The annual golf tournament "continues to grow," he said, and has proved a successful fund raiser for the chamber.

The Olympic Torch Run in Jackson was a big success for the community, Turner said.

Two new chamber committees were established, he said. The Education Committee works with local schools, and the Industrial Relations Committee with local business and industry to help identify and meet needs.
