The Jackson Chamber of Commerce will have its next general membership meeting Monday at the Jackson R-2 Middle School. The school will provide dinner at a cost of $5 a person with serving beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Following dinner, a presentation will be given by the Jackson Facilities Review Committee. Dr. Howard Jones, school superintendent, will reveal the committee's findings and recommendations. The committee has spent a great deal of time visiting and evaluating the current R-2 facilities. For those interested, a tour of the new middle school will be conducted after the chamber meeting.

It is very important advance reservations be made for the dinner. Interested people may reserve seats by calling the chamber office at 243-8131 by Thursday.

Wesclay Carpet Cleaners, represented by Rick Smith, recently joined the Jackson Chamber of Commerce. The business is at 211 S. Bellevue.

Two items were enclosed with the chamber's January newsletter.

The first was a survey form written by the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. Area businessmen are asked to mark the level of various skills needed to complete jobs at their businesses.

For example, survey participants will be asked to rate, on a scale of one to five, how important reading and interpretation is for people who work at their businesses.

Other skills to be rated are writing, mathematics, listening, speaking, reasoning, appearance, work ethic and attitude.

The surveys should be mailed to or dropped off at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce office. The results will assist the chamber and school district in meeting the needs of Jackson's business community.

The other enclosure was a press release about the Missouri Mentoring Partnership, a program designed to promote job development.

Chamber members, Jackson Rotary Club members and the Jackson High School Future Business Leaders Association will work together again this year to organize the business shadowing program during Feb. 13 through 15.

This program gives students the opportunity to experience an environment related to their future career interests.

Businesses interested in participating should call the chamber office.
