Jackson's Chamber of Commerce is recognizing residents who have gone above and beyond decorating their homes for Christmas.

"Lights of the Season" awards were presented Tuesday night.

Homes from each ward in Jackson were nominated for the best holiday lighting, and winners were chosen by the chamber's beautification committee. Awards for the best decorated trees and streets were also announced.

"This is the first year we've done this," said Marybeth Williams, Jackson Chamber of Commerce executive director. "The beautification committee decided this would be something fun to do this year."

The overall winner is David and Carol Bill, 1022 Woodland Drive, whose 1908 home is reminiscent of a scene from a Christmas card, Williams said.

Carol Bill said the couple started decorating the home on Thanksgiving.

"We've been doing this for 10 years," she said. "Our sons come help hang red ribbon around the pillars at the front of the house, and then my husband does the rest."

The couple has a huge wreath hanging from the front of the home and a decorated gazebo, complete with snow people in it.

Williams said the chamber of commerce will have maps available at the end of the week with a suggested route for a driving tour to view all the nominees' homes.
