Jackson business gives equipment to 'Makeover' TV show

Rapco and Horizon in Jackson have joined with several music industry manufacturers to provide equipment for the rebuilding of a New Orleans church that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

The results on the 118-year-old First Emmanuel Baptist Church will be featured on an "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" special that airs tonight at 7 on ABC.

Rapco and Horizon -- two brands that are part of one company -- manufacture audio-video cables and interconnection products for touring companies and local customers like Shivelbine's.

The business provided $5,000 worth of floor boxes to the church cause. The floor boxes allow the microphone cables to be plugged in on the floor, said Brad Graham, a spokesman for Rapco and Horizon. They also provided wall plates, he said.

A customer in High Point, N.C., approached the owners about donating and they quickly agreed, Graham said.

"It's just a way to directly impact people in that area," Graham said. "It's like a brick in a wall -- our little part isn't a whole lot. But you put a whole bunch of things together, and it makes a difference."

Rapco and Horizon sent the product last month and will probably be included in the end credits after the show, Graham said.

"But we just wanted to help out," he said. "The reconstruction keeps going on, and every little bit helps."
