Two candidates for the Jackson Board of Aldermen have withdrawn from the April election.

Jackson city clerk Mary Lowry said late last month Ward 1 candidate Jim Shank and Ward 4 candidate Howard Duer withdrew their candidacy.

Shank said his decision not to seek election to the position being vacated by Phil Penzel was based on personal reasons.

"I've had a lot of things come up and I wouldn't be able to give it the time and attention it deserves," he said.

Shank's departure leaves Wanda Young unopposed in Ward 1.

Duer's departure from the race leaves Ward 4 contested by Tommy Kimbel and Ron Clark. Kimbel or Clark will replace Alderman Dale Rauh, who decided not to seek re-election. Duer did not return calls for comment.

Ward 2 Alderman David Hitt and Ward 3 Alderman Mark Dambach are running unopposed in

April.
