Jackson residents who have problems with low water pressure can look forward to that being alleviated by this summer.
Mayor Paul Sander said Monday night that the board of aldermen voted to accept a bid of $399,094 from B.W. Birk & Associates of Cape Girardeau to replace the high service pumps at Water Treatment Plant No. 1.
"There are a few places where this is pretty severe," Sander said. "We don't have many of them, but we have every reason to believe from our engineer's report that this will be the cure."
A request for a special-use permit for a community unit plan in a general commercial district at lot No. 1 of Green Meadows 10th Subdivision, submitted by Appleton Valley Farm Inc., was tabled. Sander said the proposal had not been totally reviewed by the staff and will be reconsidered June 7.
At the top of the meeting, re-elected aldermen were sworn in: Larry Cunningham, David Reiminger, Jane Bader and Barbara Lohr.
Sander appointed new members to city committees: Planning and Zoning, Ken Ruff and Leeann Milde-Otten; Park Board, Tom Anderson; Zoning Board of Adjustment, Kenneth White; Library, Dolly Dambach; and Community Outreach, Marco Otten and Paula Salzmann.
Other members of the boards were reappointed.
Sander also reappointed Reiminger to the Power and Light Board; Val Tuschhoff to the Street Committee; and Kerry Hoffman as mayor pro tem.
Other action items on the agenda were approved.
